My card is Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 AGP card, I've tried many things like:- instaling drivers from AMD web site for WIN7 64bit- installing AMD hotfix 9.4 for vista 64- Sapphire I found nforce3 rock stable for both ati cards i used on this setup. must have a "Hardware ID" dirrerent than;ATI Radeon HD 3850 " = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9505&SUBSYS_3000148Cor ATI Radeon HD 3850" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9505&SUBSYS_25421002orATI Radeon HD 3800 Series" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9505out of curiosity, if I was thinking about overclocking, but not by much.

You could experiment and see if You can get more out of the cpu, but I used to have my HD3850 hooked up to an overclocked Pentium M at 2.72ghz, and I returned it... Its in XP drivers like that, maybe for win7/vista it installs without problem. is it already plugged into the 3850?

Finally I put in the cd that came with the hd3850 and installed the software for Vista and voila! This kind of re-assures me that I'm indeed having some sort of driver issue since this card is supposed to be vastly superior. Other than that, I can tell you that your CPU is a major bottleneck for anything newer then 7600GT or so . Basically, delete nvidia card's drivers and the drivers you installed for your current card. Dated 5/5/2009, the drivers carry the version 8.612, feature full support for Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.1 and works with ATI Radeon HD 2000, HD 3000, and HD 4000 series.
